Dear National Federations in Europe
This e-mail was sent on behalf of the ECL Steering Group on 26 November 2025:

European Cheer League – Update
After reviewing the European Cheer League (ECL) and receiving feedback from national federations, we are working on some new ideas.
Because of the new European Doubles Championship, there is no longer a need for doubles qualification through the ECL. However, the doubles ranking in the top three (only one per country) in the 2025 ECL-season will still be qualified as extra doubles for their country to go to the ICU European Doubles semi finals in 2026.
In our survey, federations told us that athletes are most interested in travelling and competing internationally, and that qualifying for the European Championships is not their main reason for taking part in ECL events. It was also mentioned repeatedly that travel costs for teams are too high to compete at ECL events.
Based on this feedback, we are working on a concept for ICU Europe Sanctioned events based on ECL standards.
We also have some ideas on the development of ECL from 2026 onwards. One of them is that the ECL Season will run from August to July.
We will talk about these changes and new ideas at the ICU Europe Conference in February.
We would like to thank all athletes, coaches, and event organizers for their support and for helping cheerleading grow across Europe. We look forward to continuing this journey together in new ways!
